About the Categories
A few words about how I have chosen to categorize the posts on this blog…
Commentary
These posts are ones in which I have added my editorial comments on a range of educational issues. The inspiration may have been a news article, essay, or research journal article that I have read (in which case the entry will be cross-posted), but it may simply be what is on my mind. Commentaries are backed up with references and most of the posts on this blog fall into this category.
Essays
I read many different essays written about the subject of education. Blog entries that use these essays as their inspiration will be categorized here.
News Articles
After doing my best to read as many news articles about current events in education, I pick a few to write a reaction post about. These can be found in this category. NOTE: I normally do more than simply re-report the data as I find it difficult to not put in my own opinion (it is my blog after all!). These posts are often cross-referenced with the Commentary category.
Quick Thoughts
Posts in this category are usually only one or two paragraphs in length. While of no lesser quality than usual posts, they tend to be simply my reactions and are likely not as lengthy, nor as heavily referenced, but just as meaningful.
Reviews
I try out a lot of different products – books, websites and software – that are somehow related to education. My reviews are my evaluations of these items, and likely my recommendations as I rarely bother to review items that I feel are not worthy of your time.
